Big Ten Opens College Baseball Season on Friday

From the Big Ten

The 2012 college baseball season opens on Friday, and all 11 Big Ten teams take the diamond. Big Ten newcomer Nebraska opens its campaign in Peoria, Ariz., with a three-game series against Gonzaga, while the remaining conference squads take to the fields at the Big Ten/Big East Baseball Challenge in St. Petersburg/Clearwater, Fla.

The Big Ten won the inaugural Challenge in 2009, 15-9, while the Big East won in 2010, 17-13, and in 2011, 14-10. Overall, the Big East holds a slim, 40-38 advantage in all Challenge contests.

Illinois and Michigan State split the 2011 Big Ten title, and the Illini went on to win the Big Ten Tournament and represent the conference in the NCAA Championship. The Spartans were picked as the favorite to win the 2012 crown by the Big Ten coaches, followed by Purdue, Minnesota, Nebraska, Ohio State and Illinois. The conference coaches also selected a preseason Players to Watch list, which can be found by clicking HERE.

At least 32 Big Ten baseball games will be televised by BTN, while at least 51 games will be available online. Click HERE for the full 2012 Big Ten baseball television schedule.

Thanks for the time and dedication to a Big Ten sport that doesn’t get much media coverage.
The team previews were very detailed and a great read.

    Thanks again.
